Care assistants visit people in their own homes across Hoddesdon and the surrounding area, supporting them with personal care, meals, medication prompts, mobility and company. You do not need previous care experience, but you do need to be reliable, patient and genuinely interested in people.
Pay and shift patterns are discussed at interview so we can be accurate about the hours available in your area.
About the role
- Visiting people in their own homes on a planned round of calls
- Working with a small group of regular clients wherever we can arrange it, so you build real relationships
- Supported by a local office in Hoddesdon that you can actually get hold of
- Full paid induction before you work on your own, including shadowing an experienced carer
What you will be doing
- Supporting personal care such as washing, dressing, grooming and continence, with dignity and patience
- Preparing meals and drinks, and encouraging good hydration
- Prompting medication, and assisting where you are trained and it is in the care plan
- Supporting safe mobility using the equipment in place and following the moving and handling plan
- Light household tasks that keep the home comfortable and safe
- Providing company and conversation, often the most valued part of the visit
- Recording each visit accurately and reporting any concerns or changes promptly
What we ask for
- A caring, patient and reliable manner, and respect for people's privacy in their own homes
- Good spoken and written English, enough to follow a care plan and write clear visit notes
- The right to work in the UK
- Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide references
- Willingness to complete our full induction and ongoing training
Helpful, but not essential
- Previous care experience, paid or unpaid, including caring for a family member
- A driving licence and access to a vehicle, which makes covering a round of visits much easier
- Health and Social Care qualifications such as an NVQ or Diploma
