Live-in Carer Jobs in Hertfordshire
Live-in carers stay in a client's home for an agreed placement, supporting one person (or occasionally a couple) through the day with personal care, meals, medication prompts, household tasks and companionship. You get your own room, agreed daily breaks and an agreed overnight rest period.
Pay and shift patterns are discussed at interview so we can be accurate about the hours available in your area.
About the role
- Living in one client's home for an agreed placement length
- Supporting one person through their day rather than rushing between calls
- Your own bedroom, and normal use of the kitchen and bathroom
- Agreed daily break time and an agreed overnight rest period. This is not a 24-hour waking role
- Cover arranged by the office for your breaks and time off
What you will be doing
- Supporting personal care and daily routines at the client's own pace
- Shopping, preparing meals and eating together where the client would like that
- Prompting medication, and assisting where trained and included in the care plan
- Light household tasks such as laundry, bedding, tidying and washing up
- Supporting the client to get out to appointments, shops, worship or social activities
- Caring for pets where this is part of the agreed plan
- Companionship, including conversation, hobbies and simply being present
- Recording each day accurately and escalating concerns to the office
What we ask for
- Previous care experience, in a paid role or caring for a family member
- Comfortable living in someone else's home and respecting it as theirs
- Good spoken and written English for care plans and daily notes
- The right to work in the UK
- Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide references
Helpful, but not essential
- Experience supporting someone living with dementia
- A driving licence, particularly for placements away from bus routes
- Health and Social Care qualifications
- Willingness to take placements at short notice for respite cover
